Description

Erianthus fulvus / E. rufipilus (2n=2x=20) is, so far, the closest diploid relative to Saccharum for which a genome has been assembled.

The genome assembly from Wang et al 2023 is the most complete with a telomere to telemore quality, 10 pseudo-chromosomes and a size of 858 Mb.

This assembly was performed based on PacBio HiFi CCS long reads, Illumina short reads and Hi-C data. The authors proposed that this species diverged from the Saccharum sensus stricto genus around 1.9-2.5 Mya.
